Like the New Moon, the Full Moon is another phase of the moon cycle that we can use to help us grow spiritually and emotionally. The Full Moon metaphorically shines a light on our shadows so it’s the perfect time to perform a Full Moon Release Ritual. This is when we look at the parts of us that aren’t so pleasant to look at and release emotions and energies that no longer serve us. Get your Full Moon ritual sheet here.
Like any ritual, this is a great time to clean up and set the scene for the next phase of life!
Cleansing for the Full Moon:
Cleanse and clean your space. I love setting my cleaning schedule up with the moon phases, and it makes the chore of cleaning more meaningful to me. After I clean, I cleanse my space. Learn how to cleanse your space here!
I will then take a cleansing bath (in my freshly cleaned bathtub) with purifying Epson salts and some herbs that make me feel relaxed. I throw in some chamomile flowers and rosebuds, and add in a couple drops of essential oils of choice. Usually, I throw in bergamot since I just love the scent.
Meditate and Ground:
Meditation and grounding are staples in any ritual. This helps clear the mind to make room for mindful healing. Once again, I am plugging my favorite meditation channel: The Honest Guys. I love their grounding meditation, as it isn’t very long.
Setting Full Moon Ritual Space:
After I am cleaned, cleansed, and grounded I like to set up a little area where I will be performing my ritual. Usually this is my coffee table or dining table, but if the whether is nice I will go outside. I like being outside because the light of the full moon is a powerful symbol for the ritual.
I like to include quite a few things in my ritual including:
- A journal (for the ritual practice)
- Crystals to raise the vibration and help focus my intent
- Palo santo for protection and raising vibrations
- My tarot cards to give me my energy reading for the full moon
- Candles because I think they are cute and I love a good, witchy atmosphere
For the metaphorical meat and potatoes of the ritual, I have provided a Full Moon Ritual download here. These are journaling prompts to help you release on the Full Moon.
Don’t know where to start? Here’s a pro-tip: use the themes of the zodiac that the Full Moon is residing in to focus your intention!
Full Moon Ritual Journal Prompts:
Gratitude & Achievements
As with the New Moon Ritual, for the Full Moon Release Ritual I like to write down gratitude and achievements. This part helps keep your brain in check, so we can keep positive vibes through the ritual. I usually do achievements in the last month, but you can do in the last 2 weeks, or if there is anything that has happened that has been in the works for a while.
I also use the Full Moon as a chance to look back at the goals I wrote down on the New Moon 6 months prior. This is because a New Moon will cycle into the Full Moon in the same zodiac in 6 months. This is where we see our long term manifestations come into reality.
Release
The Full Moon’s energy makes release what we don’t need in our lives all the more powerful. Is there an energy that isn’t serving me? Do I need to break a bad habit? Is there toxicity in my life that I need to let go of?
Once I identify what I need to release, I will come up with 1 or 2 actionable items that I can do to help me remove the negativity.
A good example is: I need to release my fear of success- my fear of extra responsibility, a fear of failure. In order to do this, maybe I need to set aside time each morning to plan out my day. I can also do positive affirmations each morning before I work.
Divination:
This part is totally optional, since you may or may not feel comfortable with divination. I like to pull some cards to get a collective energy reading from this phase of the new moon. Some people use pendulums, tarot cards, tea leaves or even scrying from candles. The Full Moon opens up our psychic activity, giving us an opportunity to receive messages from the universe.
How will you be utilizing the Full Moon? What do you have to release?
